Maren's First Tooth!

A few days ago, Maren "cut" her first tooth, and now it is clearly poking through her gums. I was surprised she got her first tooth at only 4 1/2 months old. Her cousin Aidan (Hurtt - she has two cousins named Aidan!) also got his first tooth around this age, so maybe it's hereditary. Maren didn't get very fussy about it, so that's a relief. Of course she likes to chew on her toys, but that's really nothing new! I'm looking forward to seeing how she'll like solid foods, but at my Mom & Baby class, a doctor of naturopathic medicine recommended that we not start solids until our baby seems interested in our food, is cutting her first tooth, and can sit up on her own. She is definitely watching us eat with great interest, and now she's got her tooth, but she doesn't seem all that interested in sitting up on her own. So we'll wait a little while longer.

I tried Maren in her jumper the other day. She likes to splay her feet out the bottom rather than standing up straight, so she looks really tiny inside it.

Maren still likes to roll over onto her tummy when she's playing, and she makes "swimming" motions with her arms and legs, like she's trying to crawl. She gets frustrated that she can't make her body move the way she wants to yet. Here she is doing push-ups with daddy.

She likes to be up in a standing position. Doesn't she look like a big girl?

Here she is pulling on mommy's hair!

We took her to her 4-month doctor checkup a couple of weeks ago, and she weighed 14 pounds 6 ounces. She is in the 75th percentile for weight and 90th for height/length. She is still nursing like a champ, though I worry about her newfound ability to chew...

We are doing a bit of remodeling/decorating for our family room now, which is keeping James very busy. We painted it "yam," a deep orange color, so we hope it will feel very warm even during the winter. We just ordered a new exterior door and two interior doors, so installing those will be a big project. Little by little, we are making this house our own. It's gotten chilly and rainy, and we had our first fire in the fireplace for the season a couple of days ago.
